Students learn first to analyze the structure and style of diverse literary, journalistic, and informal texts of the French-speaking world. These texts exemplify different genres or writing functions and provide high-quality models of prose that students are to imitate in their own written assignments. Written expression is improved as students grow more at ease with a variety of writing tasks. For the conversation part of this course, short reading selections from current French publications organized into a variety of topics encourage students to react, to talk and to exchange ideas, in short to practice and improve their conversational skills as they advance in their study of French.
