Catalog Description An introduction to the art of drama and theatre. Students study selected plays that are representative of important playwrights and historical periods. These plays are studied in their historical context and provide a basis for understanding elements and styles of drama. Theatre production will also be explored by considering the functions of actors, audiences, designers, playwrights and technicians. (3 hrs. lect.) Catalog Description This interdisciplinary introductory course looks at gender roles and relationships, historically and in contemporary societies. The course examines the social, cultural, historical, and political influences on the status of women. It presents women's experiences from diverse backgrounds, social structures, and cultures. Student Learning Outcomes Show an understanding of the difference between sex as a biological category and gender as a social category. Analyze the ways in which gender is taught, how gender is reflected in written and visual images, and how gender influences the operation of major social institutions and human relationships. Describe the historical changes in both gender roles and the status of women in the United States.
