Provides instruction in basic small engine maintenance. Topics include: engine types; ignition systems; fuel systems; lubrication, filtration, and maintenance; and engine repair.

Emphasis will be placed on the development of healthy vines which will bear high-quality fruit at reasonable cost. Topics include: site selection and preparation; varietal, clonal, and rootstock selection and planting; appropriate trellis systems; and vine training during the first year of growth. Upon completion, students should be able to make independent decisions with regard to the establishment of a new vineyard.

Topics include: introductory conversational Spanish with an emphasis on green industry vocabulary in the areas of Spanish verbs, nouns and grammar and understanding and appreciating aspects of Latino culture for more effective management.

This course will allow students to gain significant experience in the safe operation of horticulture equipment. Students will gain experience in the operation of tractors and attachments, skid-steer equipment, trenchers, landscape maintenance equipment and any other equipment relevant to the landscape industry. The course will combine lectures, demonstrations and lab activities on equipment use, operation and safety in the field.

Introduction to the organic methods of agriculture with an emphasis on the alternative, nontraditional methods of crop production. Areas of concentration include soil biology, biotic regulation of pests and disease, and the processes of nutrient cycling.

The focus will be the current trends and operating systems of commercial hydroponic facilities. Interactive sessions will cover daily operations, nutrient evaluation, site selection, and growing systems.

Prerequisite/Corequisite: EHO 172 Introduces the student to the operation of a floral business. Emphasis will be on both traditional and high style design as a business. Topics include starting a floral business, establishment of a customer base, wire service capabilities and high style planning and design.
