Prerequisite: Program admission level math and English competency Prerequisites/Corequisites: CPH 101, CPH 103 Corequisite: CPH 104 Introduces the theory and information necessary for fundamental darkroom operations. Emphasis will be placed on the safe handling of photographic chemicals. Topics include: safety, chemistry theory, paper and film theory, black and white printing theory, and equipment.

Emphasizes skill development through manipulative exercises. Topics include: small format operation, exposure control, metering for small format, lens manipulation, and roll film camera operation.

Corequisite: CPH 102 Provides instruction in procedures used to produce black and white photographs. Skill development through laboratory practice and problem solving will be the emphasis of the course. Topics include: chemistry, equipment, film processing, print processing, print mounting, and laboratory maintenance.

Corequisite: CPH 108 Introduces techniques of lighting and posing as applied to professional portraiture. Emphasizes the photographer/subject relationship and the use of controlled studio lighting and available light portraits. Topics include: available light, studio lighting, posing techniques, and camera operations.

Corequisite: CPH 108 Introduces the written and photographic techniques of news, feature, and sports photojournalism for newspaper and magazine reproduction. Topics include: news coverage, feature photography, sports photography, equipment and techniques, documentary and essay work, ethics and laws of photojournalism, and electronic image transfer.

Prerequisite/Corequisite: CPH 104 Provides darkroom and studio experiences for the development of photographic skills. Emphasis will be placed on skill development through laboratory practice and completion of structured assignments. Topics include: studio skill development and laboratory skill development.
