The relationship among reading, writing, speak-ing, and listening is studied in the context of the elementary classroom, grades 3 - 5. Content area reading, study strategies, comprehension strate-gies, use of non-fiction and fiction literature, and various strategies for teaching spelling, grammar, and vocabulary are included. Emphasis is placed on examining diagnostic tools to assess, remediate, and group a diverse student population for instruc-tion, and on the use of technology to extend and support reading and the language arts.
