(Prerequisite: Provisional admission) Introduces the fun damental concepts and operations necessary to use micro computers. Emphasis is placed on basic functions and familiarity with computer use. Topics include: computer terminology, introduction to the Windows environment, introduction to networking, introduction to word process ing, introduction to spreadsheets, and introduction to databases.

(Prerequisite: ASSET score of 41 Reading and 42 Writing or COMPASS score of 74 Reading and 60 Writing) Explores the sociological analysis of society, its culture, and structure. Sociology is presented as a science with empha sis placed on its methodology and theoretical foundations. Topics include: basic sociological concepts, socialization, social interaction and culture, social groups and institu tions, deviance and social control, social stratification, and social change.

Topics include: selection and organization of materials, prepara tion and delivery of individual and group presentations, and analysis of ideas presented by others.

(Prerequisites: Program admission; Corequisite: SUR 109) Provides an overview of the surgical technology profession and develops the fundamental concepts and principles necessary to successfully participate on a surgical team. Topics include; orientation to surgical technology, asepsis and the surgical environment, basic instrumentation and equipment, principles of the sterilization process, and application of sterilization principles.

(Prerequisites: SUR 101, SUR 108, SUR 109, and PSY 101 (diploma), or PSY 191 (degree), BIO 197 (degree)) Provides continued study of surgical team participation by introducing wound management and technological sciences for the operating room. Topics include: incisions and exposure, hemostasis, wound healing, surgical dress ings, catheters, and drains, tissue approximation, electricity, physics, robotics, minimal invasive surgery, and outpatient surgical procedures.

Topics include: historical development of microbiology, cell structure and theory, microbial function, human and pathogen relationships, infectious process, bloodborne and airborne pathogens, defense microorgan isms, infection control, and principles of microbial control and destruction.

Topics include: weights and measurements, drug conversions, interpretation of drug orders, legal aspects of drug administration, intraoperative pharmacologic agents, and anesthesia fundamentals.

(Prerequisites: Program admission: AHS 101, BIO 193 and SUR 101 (taken no longer than 6 months prior to enrollment in SUR 112); Pre/Corequisite: SUR 102) Orients students to the clinical environment and provides experience with basic skills necessary to the surgical tech nologist. Topics include: scrubbing; gowning; gloving; and draping; assistance with patient care; processing of instru ments and supplies; maintenance of a sterile field; basic instrumentation; and environmental sanitation.

(Prerequisite: SUR 102, SUR 109, SUR 110, SUR 112; Corequisite: SUR 213) Continues introduction to surgical procedures, incisions, wound closure, operative pathology, and common complications as applied to general and specialty surgery. Topics include: general surgery and special techniques, obstetrical and gynecological surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, genitourinary surgery, head and neck surgery, and plastic and reconstructive surgery.
