Topics include: collection/ examination of specimens and CLIA regulations; urinaly- sis; venipuncture, hematology and chemistry evaluations; advanced reagent testing, administration of medications; emergency procedures of the medical office, respiratory evaluations, rehabilitative therapy procedures; principles of radiology and safety.

(Prerequisites: Program admission, AHS 101, AHS 109; Corequisite: MAS 103) Provides clear, succinct, and basic information about common medical conditions. Taking each body system, the disease condition is highlighted following a logical formation consisting of: description, etiology, signs and symptoms, diagnostic procedures, treat ment, prognosis, and prevention. Topics include: introduc tion to disease and diseases of body systems including the nutritional and pharmacological implications.

(Prerequisites: AHS 101, AHS 109, MAS 103) Focuses on the reproductive system, care of the mothers in all stages of pregnancy, the normal and emotional growth of the healthy child, and care of the sick child. Topics include: introduction to obstetrics, female and male reproductive systems, intrauterine development, prenatal care, labor and delivery, principles of fetal monitoring, principles of special ized testing (fetal monitors, ultrasound, special triple test, and stress test), and child development and common pathophysiology from newborn through adolescence.

(Prerequisites: Completion of all required courses except MAS 118, MAS 150; Corequisite: MAS 118, MAS 150) Provides students with an opportunity for in-depth appli cation and reinforcement of principles and techniques in a medical office job setting. This clinical practicum allows the student to become involved in a work situation at a professional level of technical application and requires concentration, practice, and follow through. Topics include: application of classroom knowledge and skills; functioning in the work environment; listening; and following directions.

(Prerequisites: Completion of all required courses except MAS 117, MAS 150;Corequisite:MAS 117, MAS 150) Seminar focuses on job preparation and maintenance skills and review for the certification examination. Topics in clude: completing a job application, follow-up letter/call, letters of application, resumes, job interviews, letters of resignation, and review of program competencies for em ployment and certification.

This clinical practicum enhances the student's knowledge of various practices, diagnostic studies, and treatments.

(Prerequisites: AHS 101, AHS 109, ENG 101 or ENG 111; Corequisites: BUS 101, MAS 112) Provides an intro duction to medical coding skills and application of inter national coding standards for billing of health care services. Topics include: international classification of diseases, code books format, guidelines and conventions, and coding techniques.

(Prerequisite: MAS 151) Continues development of skills and knowledge presented in Medical Procedures Coding I and provides for patient disease and medical procedure coding for billing purposes by health care facilities. Topics include: medical records coding techniques, coding hospi tal records, and coding outpatient records.
