This course provides an overview of the theory and practice of writing, pre-production and production of electronic journalism for broadcast and web. The students in this course will collaborate with students in MDST 2700 to produce newsreels and other informative segments to be streamed online via the Compass newspaper site on a regular basis.

LATN 1001 is the first of two elementary language courses designed to develop skills in speaking, listening comprehension, reading, and writing as well as familiarize students with aspects of the target culture. The course delivery combines three hours of in-class lecture with instructional delivery through lab assignments, online course work, and service learning where applicable. A grade of C or higher will fulfill the CPC deficiency.
LATN 1001 may count in AREA F towards Foreign Language, Associate of Arts and Associate of Science - General Studies degrees.

LATN 1002 is a continuation of LATN 1001 and skills development in speaking, listening, comprehension, reading, writing, and familiarization with aspects of the target culture. The course delivery combines three hours of in-class lecture with instructional delivery through lab assignments, online course work, and service learning where applicable.

A study of Latin culture and language as revealed through the work of Cicero and other Latin writers of the classical period. Latin prose and poetry readings from Pliny and Ovid to Cicero are supplemented with review of grammar and syntax. Exposure to more complex syntax and translation forms. Emphasis on Latin literary styles and their influence on English and Romance languages.

A study of classical Latin culture and language as revealed through poetry and prose. Emphasis on major figures such as Catullus, Horace, Vergil, Livy, and Petronius.

This Area B course is designed to provide students with an understanding of leadership and the opportunity to apply this knowledge to themselves and others. Readings, experiential learning exercises and discussion are used to develop the skills needed in leadership roles. Topics covered may include servant leadership, ethics, vision, decision-making, empowerment, team building, conflict resolution and initiating change.

An introduction to leadership and the psychological elements necessary for good leadership. An examination of the psychological factors affecting behavior to include personality, adult development and generational theory, motivational theories and effective followership.

An overview of the nature of groups as they relate to leadership. Topics include group development, socialization, cohesion, group decision-making and intergroup conflict.
