This course introduces the legal, regulatory, political, social, ethical, cultural, environmental, and technological issues which form the context for business including an overview of the impact and demographic diversity on organizations. Culinary Federation Educational Institute cook and pastry apprenticeship training objectives, along with Retail Bakery Association training program. Topics include baking principles, baking ingredients, preparation of baked goods, baking sanitation and hygiene, and baking supplies and equipment. Laboratory demonstrations and student experimentation parallel class work.

This course introduces the fundamental array of building materials used in residentialial and commercial construction and the safe use of hand and power tools. Topics tinclude introduction to construction trades and instruction in the safe use of hand and power tools including layout and measuring tools, sawing tools, shaping and cutting tools, fastening tools, drilling and boring tools, and finishing tools.

On-site construction procedures will be emphasized. Topics include size selection of girders and joists, materials estimation, and layout and installation procedures.

Prerequisite: CARP 1001; CARP 1003; INDM 2110 The course provides instruction in identification, materials estimation, and framing production of wall and partition members. Emphasis will be placed on practical application of competencies. Topics include estimation and computation procedures, rough opening layouts, construction and erection of wall members, and sheathing installation.

Prerequisite: CARP 1001; CARP 1003; INDM 2110 This course introduces terminology, concepts, and procedures used in identification, estimation, layout, and installation of ceiling and roof framing systems. Topics include identification of ceiling systems, ceiling system materials estimation, ceiling system layout procedures, scaffolding and ladder safety, ceiling system installation procedures, roof system terminology, roof system estimation and layout, roof system installation and decking, and vent systems.

Prerequisite: CARP 1011 or permission of instructor This course provides a breakdown of the International building code as applied to a residential or general contractor. The Georgia State Licensing Board for Residential and General Contractors now requires residential and general contractors to hold a valid license for the practice of contracting in Georgia. Thirtyfive sections of the 2003 International Building Code book are covered in the course including Administration and Definition sections.

This course focuses on interpersonal relationships with customers and includes: information sharing skills, telephone skills, diversity awareness, and managing difficult customers. Course includes simulated business situations and skills assessment.

This course focuses on business writing, business math, and managing changes in the workplace. Further, this course focuses on maintaining a positive image at work and maintaining optimal mental and physical health. Job search skills are discussed and practiced, and a problem-solving model is presented that illustrates how to manage multiple tasks and priorities. Basic computer skills in spreadsheets and databases also are presented.
