(3 credits) The student will gain knowledge of the eight areas of competency required by the Child Care Professional Certifi cate and demonstrate mastery in each area through their EEC 1001 coursework and through an offi cial observation of the student in their early childhood classroom. The student will gain knowledge of state rules and regulations regarding child care programs, child growth and development, and developmentally appropriate practice concerning children ages birth through eight. Corequisite: CHD 2322, EEC 2300.

(3 credits) This course provides the student with knowledge of philosophy, theories, and instructional practices of early childhood education. Methods of teaching will include lectures, class discussions, audio/visual presentations, outside speakers, individual or group activities, and fi eld assignments.

(3 credits) This course includes the study of principles, methods, guidance and discipline techniques used to promote positive social development in young children; infl uence of environment and developmental level of child on social behavior. ? EEC 1601 Observing and Recording Child Behavior (3 credits) This course is designed to increase objectivity and profi ciency in observing and interpreting children's behavior.

(3 credits) This course is to provide the student with a foundation for management of child care and other early education programs. This course is designed to meet Florida educational requirements for the foundational level child care and education administrator credential. ? EEC 2200 Language and Literacy in Early Childhood (3 credits) This course establishes an understanding of emergent literacy foundations and sequences development across multiple domains and infl uential factors based on the high scope philosophies. Prerequisite: EEC 1309C, pass with a D or better.

(3 credits) This course includes the study of techniques of creating and maintaining a safe, healthy, learning environment for children. The course stimulates the effective skills in advancing physical, cognitive, communication, social, emotional, and creative skills for young children. Corequisite: CHD 2322, EEC 1001.

(3 credits) This course is comprehensive in scope, emphasizing skills and concepts of parenting which include: adjustment to parental roles, parent-child communication, cultivating strong families, alternate family structures, working with families, agencies and legislation affecting children and family.

2.00 Credits
(2 credits) On-the-job training in associate of science degree. The student is under the supervision at work of a qualifi ed supervisor appointed by the respective agency, who works with the LCCC instructor regarding student's knowledge, comprehension, dependability, initiative, cooperativeness, OJT performance. The LCCC instructor will evaluate the OJT experience in consultation with the agency supervisor regarding OJT performance and project paper on approved project submitted two weeks prior to close of semester. Prerequisite: CHD 1220 with a C or better.

(3 credits) This course introduces students to examples of atypical child development and disabling conditions in young children and issues related to the care and education of exceptional children. ?* EME 2040 Introduction to Educational Technology (3 credits) This course is an introduction to productivity software, interactive media (including communications hardware), educational software, and instructional applications. It also teaches how to create multimedia presentations, use the Internet in an educational setting, and explore educational technology issues in the social, ethical, and legal arenas. While there are no prerequisites, students should be aware that reading and writing are important parts of the course. Any student scoring into Principles of Reading (REA 0002) and/or Writing (ENC 0020) would be well advised to complete them before attempting this course. This is a prerequisite course for admission to teacher education programs at the university level. Lab fee.

(3 credits) This survey course based on the National Highway Traffi c Safety Administration curriculum for fi rst responders at scenes of accident and/or illness is designed to prepare the student for emergency care of a victim, providing the skills and knowledge of care prior to the arrival of the Emergency Medical Technician/Paramedic. Recognition of symptoms and signs of impending danger to the patient's life and the accepted treatment modes for the conditions will be taught as well as techniques for extrication (light duty) of the accident victim.
