(4 credits) Emphasizes individualized instruction and language laboratory to develop skills in listening comprehension, reading comprehension, oral communication, and composition necessary to prepare the nonnative speaker of English for college level study. Involves both classroom (3 hours) and language laboratory (minimum of 1 hour.) Students should anticipate daily homework assignments. Assignments will include exercises in grammar, vocabulary, writing, reading, and some research.

(4 credits) Focuses on the non-native speaker of English who is in need of intensive work on vocabulary development and composition skills of a suffi cient level to anticipate the successful entry into college level course work. Involves both classroom (3 hours) and language laboratory (minimum of 1 hour.) Students should anticipate daily homework assignments. Assignments will include exercises in grammar, vocabulary, writing, reading, and some research.

(3 credits) GE, GR Macroeconomics. The study of economics principles, analysis of national income, national production and distribution, money and banking, and public fi nance. Prerequisite: Completion of REA 0002 and ENC 0020 or score out on appropriate placement test.

(3 credits) Microeconomics. The study of theories of production, price determination, and resource allocation. In addition, the economics of inequality, poverty, and comparative economic systems are studied. Prerequisite: Completion of REA 0002 and ENC 0020 with a C or better or score out on appropriate placement test. ?* EDF 1005 Introduction to Education (3 credits) This course explores the historical foundations of education in the United States, and looks at various philosophies and approaches to education and current topics of concern to teachers, parents, and administrators of schools, with particular emphasis on schools in Florida. A fi eld experience is required. While there are no prerequisites, students should be aware that reading and writing are important parts of the course. Any student scoring into Principles of Reading (REA 0002) and/or Writing (ENC 0020) would be well advised to complete them before attempting this course. This is a prerequisite course for admission to teacher education programs at the university level.

Includes a 6,000 word writing requirement under Gordon Rule. Prerequisite: ENC 1101. ?* EDG 2701 Teaching Diverse Populations (3 credits) MC This course is an introduction to multicultural educational issues with emphasis on such diversity dimensions as culture, race, ethnicity, language, social class, exceptional abilities, age, and gender. Implications for diversity are related to educational policy, curriculum, and methodology. A fi eld experience is required. While there are no prerequisites, students should be aware that reading and writing are important parts of the course.
