WOH 2040 World in the 20th Century (P) 3 credits This course teaches the major political, economic, diplomatic, military, social and intellectual developments and events of the 20th century. A chronological approach to several major themes which comprise the history of the modern world: the decline of European hegemony in the course of two major wars and a world depression; a half-century of superpower hostility following the outbreak of the cold war; the transformation of global politics in light of the collapse of the U.S.S.R. and the end of the Cold War; and the rise of Islamic fundamentalism with terrorism patterns.
