RASC 312: Environmental and Radiation Protection

This course is designed to provide the student with an overview of the principles of radiation protection. Radiation protection responsibilities of the radiation therapist for patients, personnel, and the public is presented. The concepts of As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA), Negligible Individual Risk Level (NIRL), and stochastic and non-stochastic effects will be discussed. Regulatory agencies will be identified and agency involvement in radiation protection will be discussed. Naturally Occurring Radio-Active Material (NORM), the environment and public safety will be explored.
