Prerequisite: ENG 101, GER 202 or equivalent. 3 credits Contemporary gender issues in Austria, Germany and Switzerland will be studied by looking at the development of traditional, ethical, historical, political, religious and social theories. Issues and perspectives related to Feminist theory and practices in the United States, Europe, and other countries will also be examined.

Designed to increase proficiency in reading, comprehension, and written expression in German. Emphasis on vocabulary development and increasing the student's facility in reading literary texts. Works of literature, art, and music are studied as the basis for discussion of German cultural history. Taught in German.

Prerequisite: GER 202 or equivalent. 3 credits formerly GERM 267 Women's Literature in German Women in literature of German-speaking countries. The works of women writers reflect significant changes in European society and culture, including the development of German feminism and contemporary gender issues in the German-speaking countries. Taught in German.

Prerequisite: GER 202 or permission of the instructor. 3 credits This course examines women in film and literature in German speaking countries. The works of internationally known film-makers, such as Lang, Riefenstahl, Fasbinder, Herzog, Wenders. Marischka will be discussed, as well as selected essays, short stories, and poetry of 18th, 19th and 20th century women writers. Both genres reflect significant changes in European society and culture, including the development of German feminism and contemporary gender issues in Germanspeaking countries.

Prerequisite: GER 202 or permission of the instructor. 3 credits This course is a continuation of GER 268 - Women in Film and Literature I This course provides an examination of women in film and literature in German speaking countries form 1945 to the present. The works of internationally know modern film-makers will be discussed, as well as selected essays, short stories and poetry by current women writers. Both genres reflect the role women play in society as viable partners in German-speaking countries as well as in a United Europe.

Prerequisite: GER 202 or permission of instructor. 3 credits This course examines the ways in which political conflict and social issues are expressedthrough music in the Germanspeaking society from the 18th century to the present. We look at written, composed and performed music, from classical to modern, and explore the main aspects of the German democratic thought and perspectives.

Prerequisite: Eligibility for ENG 084. 4 credits A study of the structure of the earth and the processes responsible for its development. Minerals, rocks, weathering, mass wasting, volcanoes, glaciers, streams, plate tectonics and other topics are included. 2 hours of class, 2 hours of laboratory per week.
