Seminar on interrelationships of the endocrine system and behavior. Mechanisms and consequences of intracellular and membrane actions of steroids. Influence of steroid action on consummatory and motivated behaviors and cognitive and affective processes. Reciprocity between hormones' effects on behavior and the effect of behavioral processes on hormonal function. This is the same course as Biology 409. Supervised practicum in clinical and community psychology. Students work 10 - 12 hours per week in supervised field placements in hospitals, child guidance clinics and other community agencies. Selections for the academic year are made the preceding spring. Participation is typically for a full academic year. Students electing 441, 442 must concurrently register for the Seminar in Clinical and Community Psychology, 441A, 442A. Prerequisite: Course 210 or 213, permission of the supervising faculty member and agency director. Enrollment limited to 12 students. This course will offer an introduction to Clinical Neuropsychology, which explores brain-behavior relationships through a variety of assessment procedures. Fundamentals of neuropsychological assessment techniques will be introduced. Basic neuroanatomy, early brain development, and neuropathology will be reviewed. The neurobehavioral impact of clinical disorders such as learning disorders, autistic spectrum disorders, genetic disorders, hydrocephalus, traumatic brain injury, psychiatric disorders, and Attention- Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder will be examined with illustrations from case material.
