A survey of the historical development of Latin America focusing on its Native American, Iberian, Asian and Black populations and its emergence as a force in the 20th century. Students will examine original documents in order to analyze the structure of social, economic, and cultural relationships. Special attention will be paid to the development of Argentina, Mexico and the Caribbean nations and their relationship to the United States.
