Prerequisite: ENG 025 (or equivalent) LEC 1 hr., LAB 0 hrs. An introduction to the career of an Aviation professional. Topics discussed will include the history of commercial aviation and the regulations that govern the industry, the professional ethics and responsibilities of the aviation professional, an overview of career opportunities, typical career paths and basic qualifications.

Prerequisites: MAT 014 (or equivalent), ENG 025 (or equivalent) LEC 3 hrs., LAB 0 hrs. This course is designed to prepare the student to successfully pass the FAA Private Pilot computer examination. The course is also designed to complement the Flight Training I course (AVT 111). The subject area includes introduction to the airplane, airplane systems, airport, communication and air traffic control, weight and balance, meteorology, federal aviation regulations, aeronautical charts, radio navigation, Airman's Information Manual, flight computer, medical factors of flight and cross-country flying. The FAA Private Pilot knowledge exam is given at computer testing centers throughout the area. The scheduling of the exam and the fee to take the exam are the responsibility of the student.

Prerequisite: Department Permission LEC as required; LAB 3 hrs., Course fee $2,500 This is the first part of the flight training required for the Private Pilot Practical exam, airplane category, class single-engine land. The student will start with basic aircraft maneuvers, progressing through solo flight and the start of the cross-country flight requirements. This course will take place off campus at the airport. Scheduling of flight lessons is the responsibility of the student. A student must be at least up to Flight Lesson 12 to fulfill the requirements of the course. This course runs for 8 weeks.

Prerequisite: Department Permission LEC as required; LAB 3 hrs., Course fee $2,500 This is a continuation of Flight Training 1A. The student is expected to continue flight training requirements to meet the Private Pilot Practical exam. This course will take place off campus at the airport. Scheduling of flight lessons is the responsibility of the student. A student must successfully pass the Final Stage Check to fulfill the requirements of the course. This course runs for 8 weeks.

Prerequisite: MAT 011 LEC 2 hrs., LAB 3 hrs., Course fee $30 This course is a study of the aerodynamic forces that affect flight. Airframe designs are studied to determine what effects they have on aircraft performance. Other topics include glide performance, aircraft stability, range and endurance, and propulsive efficiency. Laboratory projects are performed to reinforce concepts learned in lecture.
