Intricate combinations and faster rhythms lead to actual choreographed jazz dances by both the instructor and student. Theatre dance is emphasized.     LEC 0 hrs., LAB 2 hrs., Course fee $10 This course is designed for students interested in tap dancing, a form of dance in which the feet produce sounds by creating rhythmical patterns. The entire body is involved, yet the feet are isolated by the sounds they create. Class includes basic warm-up exercises and combinations along with lecture, demonstrations and videos. Students will spend additional time in the studio to satisfy course time requirements. (Students need to provide their own tap shoes.)

    Prerequisite: DAN 130 or department chairperson permission LEC 0 hrs., LAB 2 hrs., Course fee $10 This course is designed for students interested in an intermediate level of tap dancing involving the entire body, yet more advanced foot work. Class will include intermediate warm-up exercises and traveling combinations along with lecture, demonstrations and videos. Students will spend additional time in the studio to satisfy course time requirements. (Students need to provide their own tap shoes.)

    LEC 3 hrs., LAB 0 hrs. This course satisfies the Diversity/Global Perspective requirement. This course follows the historical development of dance, from the beginning of primitive movements to the dance theater of the 20th century. Slides, videos and examples of dance styles are used to exemplify the different periods of dance development. Written examinations, research papers, projects and a trip to Lincoln Center Library of Performing Arts Dance Collection in NYC are included.

    Prerequisite: Dance majors only or permission of department LEC 0 hrs., LAB 2 hrs., Course fee $10 This course is designed for the student interested in dance production. The course involves publicity work, costuming, design, auditions, rehearsals and possible performance. Practical experience is gained by participating in concerts at CCM, on stage and/or backstage. Students will spend additional time in the studio to satisfy course time requirements.

    Prerequisites: DAN 135, Dance majors only. LEC 0 hrs., LAB 2 hrs., Course fee $10 This class develops the student as a performer, choreographer, and/or backstage production artist. It is a continuation of Dance Theatre Workshop I, and serves as a vehicle for active participation in the CCM Dance Theatre. Students will earn credit by contributing to the productions through publicity work, budgeting, ticketing, programming, backstage lighting work, and/or performing and presenting original student works. Students will spend additional time in the studio to satisfy course time requirements.

    LEC 0 hrs., LAB 4 hrs., Course fee $20 This course stresses ballet barre work and alignment, stretching exercises, and basic adagios in the center and across the floor. Formal positions, directions and terminology are taught and reviewed. Ballet companies are discussed and injury prevention is stressed. Written and practical assignments are given. Students will spend additional time in the studio to satisfy course time requirements.

    Prerequisite: DAN 137 or departmental permission LEC 0 hrs., LAB 4 hrs., Course fee $20 This is a continuation of Ballet I leading to faster footwork and movement in the center and across the floor. Emphasis is on turns, glissades, jetes, etc., with continued work on stretching and strengthening correctly. Practical exams and assignments are given. Students will spend additional time in the studio to satisfy course time requirements.

    LEC 0 hrs., LAB 4 hrs., Course fee $20 This course emphasizes technique in contemporary dance as an art form. Floor combinations and creative movement across the floor are given, stressing proper alignment and injury prevention. Modern dance companies are discussed. Written and practical assignments. Students will spend additional time in the studio to satisfy course time requirements.

    Prerequisite: DAN 141 or departmental permission LEC 0 hrs., LAB 4 hrs., Course fee $20 This is a low intermediate technique course in contemporary dance. Emphasis is on creative explorations of movement already learned. Use of the spine, centering and injury prevention are stressed and utilized in movement combinations. Practical and written assignments. Students will spend additional time in the studio to satisfy course time requirements.
