Applies field and laboratory methods for assessing the abiotic and biotic environment. Emphasizes field techniques in climatology, surveying soils, hydrology, geomorphology, plant and animal ecology, and environmental law. Evaluation by written module reports and maps. Lect. and lab. Introduction to evolution, ecology, physiology, and behavior of insects. Emphasizes how insects have solved problems, such as maintaining water balance or finding food, that are shared by all animals but for which there may be unique solutions among the insects.
