A survey of the political, economic, social and cultural history of the United States from Reconstruction to the present. Topics include Reconstruction, industrialization, the Progressive Era, World War I, the Twenties, the New Deal, World War II, domestic and foreign policy issues of post-World War II in the 1950s and 60s, Vietnam, Watergate, and current issues facing the nation. This course also highlights the development of California state and local governments.

An investigation of Jewish history and literature from the 400 silent years between the Old and New Testaments. The course examines history between the Captivity and the Second Jewish Revolt and studies the extra-canonical Jewish literature of the period 250 BC to AD 100 against the backdrop of the Old Testament canon. This course meets the requirements of the US Constitution for teacher credentialing.
