    This course provides hands-on training in all phases of editing and preparing news copy for publication in various print and online media, and the writing of headlines and photo captions and cutlines. It covers local news, wire copy, assembling and shaping the various elements of news stories, the requirements of news style and safeguards against errors. Lecture: [3.00].     This course analyzes the history, development, and function of the police in a free society. A primary concern in the course is the relationship between the various components of the criminal justice system and the effectiveness of the system as a mechanism for social control. Lecture [3.00].

    This course is an overview of the history and philosophical foundations of the American correctional system. This course examines the organization and operation of the correctional system and correctional treatment programs ranging from pre-trial diversion to post-incarceration procedures. The course analyzes current issues and problems in corrections such as social control within prisons, legal rights of prisoners, and alternatives to imprisonment. Lecture [3.00].
