Prerequisite: AdJus 10. Preparation for taking law enforcement self-defense test. Protection against persons armed with dangerous and deadly weapons. Demonstration and drill in limited number of "holds" and "come alongs". Restraint of prisoners and mentalill persons. Use of baton and application of self-defense kicks and handcuffing techniques. Total of 9 hours lecture and 45 hours laboratory.

Prerequisites: AdJus 128. Advanced use of force policies utilized by major police departments within the State of California. Discussion of the idea of use of force ethics, and the history of misconduct and felonious behavior by individual people. Discussions include the institutional foundations of use of force, escalation/de-escalation use of force, and ethical issues and moral challenges that arise from the interplay of advanced defensive tactics. Total of 36 hours lecture and 18 hours laboratory.

Prerequisite: AdJus 14. Moral aspects, legal provisions, safety precautions and restrictions covering use of firearms; firing of sidearms and shotguns; related first aid. Total of 9 hours lecture and 27 hours laboratory.

Prerequisite: AdJus 14. Principles of preparation and writing a valid search warrant. Includes foundations of search warrants, conceptual issues and challenges arising from the responsibilities of the search warrant affiant (case agent). Exposure to principles of the service of search warrants and the coordination existing between the affiant and the officer in charge. Total of 45 hours lecture and 9 hours laboratory.

The role and responsibility of the public regulatory investigator, planning the investigation, developing sources of information, note taking and report writing, collection, identification and presentation of evidence, legal aspects of investigations, other civil and criminal remedies, giving testimony as an expert witness, the administrative hearing process. Total of 36 hours lecture.

Prerequisites: AdJus 10, 12. Origin, development, philosophy and constitutional basis of evidence; constitutional and procedural considerations affecting arrest, search and seizure; kinds and degrees of evidence and rules governing admissibility; judicial decisions interpreting individual rights and case studies; evidentiary requirements justifying the use of force or deadly weapons by peace officers. Total of 54 hours lecture. Transfer Credit: CSU

Structure, jurisdiction and procedures of different courts; functions of various administrative agencies; criminal procedures from apprehension to conviction, including bail, extradition, search and seizure, examination, modes of accusation, appeals and writs. Prerequisite: AdJus 10. Survey of the relationships of the criminal justice system and the community; symptomatic aspects of community mistrust, lack of cooperation and misunderstanding.
