Assessment of learning and performance strengths and limitations for students having difficulties in regular or vocational classes and for students' eligibility for services in Disabled Student Programs and Services (DSPS). Perceptual, cognitive, language, and achievement testing will be provided. Recommended: maintain enrollment in 3 units or more including SpSv 404; enrollment in either SpSv 410 or SpSv 412. Pass/no pass grading. Total of 9 hours laboratory.

Orientation to the academic and vocational aspects of the community college. Exposure to support services provided by Disabled Student Programs and Services as well as college and community services. Information about and practice using learning strategies and compensatory devices for students with disabilities taking regular classes. Students will learn regular and specialized strategies to read textbooks, retain information, take notes, solve math and word problems, use computers, take exams, and manage their time. Nature and causes of various types of learning disabilities and strategies to compensate for them. Designed to help adults with learning disabilities, parents who have children with learning disabilities, and significant others understand and cope with the challenge. Pass/no pass grading. Total of 18 hours lecture.

A survey of the major psychological disorders and how these disorders interfere with academic functioning. Designed to help students with psychological disabilities manage their symptoms more effectively, provide them with campus and community resources, and develop strategies for college success. Pass/no pass grading. Total of 18 hours lecture.

Information and practice using cognitive-behavioral exercises and social dialogue designed to help the student with psychological disabilities develop more effective self-advocacy strategies in personal, social, and academic areas. Pass/no pass grading. Total of 18 hours lecture.

Assessment of individual work aptitudes, habits, skills, and disability-related limitations that need to be considered in selecting an appropriate entry level position for training or placement. These factors include assessment of gross and fine motor skills, sensory and health factors, social-adaptive functioning, interpersonal communication, cognitive and academic achievement levels, transferable skills based on experience, and job- specific skills related to the student's areas of interest. Functional limitations will be identified and accommodations to meet them will be developed. Recommended Enrollment in SpSv 416. Pass/no pass grading. Total of 9 hours laboratory.

Job preparation skills such as discussion of work ethics, interpersonal communication on the job, analysis of the job market, analysis of student strengths and limitations in selecting appropriate jobs, interview techniques, and awareness of resources helpful in job finding. Pass/no pass grading. Total of 18 hours lecture, and 18 hours laboratory.

Skills necessary for obtaining, maintaining and succeeding on a job. Identifying and contacting potential employers, labor market surveying, networking, and job interviewing. Identification of reasonable accommodations in passing employment tests, interviewing, and performing the essential functions of a job. Pass/no pass grading. Total of 18 hours lecture, and 18 hours laboratory.

Introduction to vocabulary building, word attack skills, and basic reading techniques. Recommended enrollment in SPSV 490A or ESL 490A. No credit if taken after ESL 432 or SPSV 480B, Engl 415, 130, or 14. Cannot be taken concurrently with ESL 432, SPSV 480B or ESL 480B, Engl 415, 130 or 14. Total of 54 hours lecture, and 18 hours laboratory.
