Prerequisite: Enrollment in or completion of Legal 134 and 145A. On-line computer research with West Publishing Company. Composing queries, researching case law, statutes, and legal periodicals with the computer. Total of 9 hours lecture and 27 hours laboratory.

Prerequisite: Legal 134. An introduction to computer use in the law office. Applications will include software for judicial council form applications, jury instruction preparation, billing and accounting, legal calendaring, word processing applications for legal document preparation. Recommended: basic word processing skills. Total of 36 hours lecture and 18 hours laboratory.

Theory and practice in a variety of roles performed by library technicians in all types of libraries, media and information centers. Emphasis on the library technicians' role in delivery of services and retrieval of information, tools and terminology and retrieval of information for library services, the Library Bill of Rights, and the relationships of libraries to the communities they serve. Review of paraprofessional journals and listservs that support paraprofessional activities, and strategies for successful job placement and performances. Total of 54 hours lecture.

Recommended preparation: Lib 101. Introduction to information resources appropriate for paraprofessionals performing in libraries and information centers. Basic reference tools in print, media, and electronic formats, philosophy of reference/information services, criteria for the evaluation of quality services and resources, reference interview techniques especially regarding diverse population and special needs. Total of 54 hours lecture.

Theory and practice of circulation systems including management and operation of an online circulation module. Discussions regarding circulation policies, patron privacy issues, reserve collections, and public relations. Knowledge in setting reserve collections, shelving, stack management, inventory, circulation statistics, training and supervising assistants, interlibrary loan, and use of smart classroom equipment. Practical experience with classification systems including Dewey Decimal, Library of Congress, National Library of Medicine, and Superintendent of Documents. Total of 54 hours lecture.
