Examination of historical and contemporary labor issues in Asian and Pacific Islander American communities, with emphasis on key role that Asian and Pacific Islander American students can play in supporting labor struggles of low-income immigrants. Lecture, three hours; fieldwork, one hour. Introductory overview of mental and physical health issues of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders; identification of gaps in health status indicators and barriers to both care delivery and research for these populations. Letter grading.

Role of media in society and its influence on contemporary cultural environment, specifically in Los Angeles; issues of representation as they pertain to race, ethnicity, gender, and sexuality.
