Includes similarities and differences of the scientific method across the sciences, and similarities between the natural and social sciences. No lectures. Multimedia selfstudy, 2 twohour, facetoface skilltraining and discussion sessions weekly. One interdisciplinary lab session every 3 weeks. (Also listed as CSA 250)

Reading and discussion of works of eminent scientists and philosophers concerning those results of science that have a bearing on philosophic problems. Readings may be from authors such as Schrodinger, Russell, Huxley, Chardin, Kuhn. 4 lectures. Prerequisite: senior standing in one of the natural or physical sciences, mathematics or consent of instructor.

Parttime or fulltime work experience that applies scientific principles to practice. To be taken in sequence. Prerequisite: junior standing or approval of coop coordinator. The work assignment must have prior approval. Maximum 16 units.

Social implications and history of the contribution of women in math, science, and engineering. Examination of how socially defined identities affected the careers of female scientists. Combined with examination of current and specific topics in mathematics, science, and engineering. 4 hours seminar. Prerequisites: One course from each of the following Subareas: A1, A2, A3 and B1, B2, B4 and D1, or D2, and D3. Interdisciplinary GE Synthesis Course for Subarea B5 or D4.
