    High-intermediate/advanced vocational ESL multi-skill course with a focus on vocabulary used in the agricultural workplace. Focuses on workplace oral communication, reading and writing tasks incorporating CASAS content and competency areas, and meeting the SCANS guidelines. CASAS certification upon completion.     Provides a foundation of basic nursing arts and sciences necessary for the practice of nursing. Professional issues and trends of nursing are identified along with the development of an understanding of the nursing process. Concepts of the nurse, client and health care environment, professional nursing and nursing skills, growth and development of the adult, human needs in health and illness, basic physiological needs, and providing a safe environment are presented.     Provides a foundation of basic gerontological nursing using demographics, theories of aging and growth and development concepts as a framework for presenting health problems and special concerns of the elderly. Legal and ethical issues, economics, and healthcare of older adults using a nursing process approach are discussed. Prerequisites: Entrance in the ADN or VN Program or evaluation by program director for skills and knowledge, concurrent enrollment in VNRS B1LV. Hours: 18 lect. Offered: F, S.     Laboratory course correlated with the first semester theory courses in the Vocational Nursing Program. The major focus will be on learning fundamental nursing skills with application in geriatric and medical surgical settings. Incorporated is the nursing process which utilizes the skills of assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation providing a systemic approach to nursing practice. Prerequisite: Appropriate standing in the VN Program and concurrent enrollment in VNRS B1, VNRS B75 and VNRS big. Hours: 324 lab. CCS: Occupational Education. Not Transferable: Associate Degree only.

    Provides a foundation for pharmacological nursing using the nursing process as the framework for presenting concepts and principles of pharmacology and drug administration. Legal and ethical issues, nursing responsibilities and client participation associated with medication administration are discussed. A nursing process approach is utilized throughout every aspect of drug study and drug administration Prerequisite: Entrance in the first semester of the ADN or VN program or evaluation by program director or instructor for skills and knowledge.     Designed to prepare the vocational nurse to function safely when administering medication to a group of clients. Student will be administering medications to more complex clients in the laboratory setting. Expounds on principles learned in VNRS B31ab. Prerequisite: Appropriate standing in the VN Program and VNRS B31ab with a "C" or better . Hours : 9 lect. CCS:Occupational Education. Not Transferable: Associate Degree only.

    Provides an overview of contemporary family-centered childbirth, incorporating the self-care movement and changing roles of the nurse. Legal and ethical issues of maternal/newborn nursing are discussed. Coverage of maternal/newborn nursing uses a nursing process approach for antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and neonatal care. Prerequisites: Completion of the first semester of ADN or second semester VN program or evaluation by program director for skills and knowledge, concurrent enrollment in VNRS B87LV. Hours: 27 lect.   • 3.00 - 3.50 Credits

    Provides a study of etiology, pathophysiology, assessment, planning and evaluation of adult clients with gastrointestinal, skin, eye, ear, upper airway, nutritional genitourniary, and fluid and electrolute disorders. Integrated into course are beginning concepts of the therapeutic, use of drugs, diet therapy, and the physiological and psychosocial problems. Students are required to initiate critical thinking skills when dealing with clients and families. Concepts and skills in course are correlated in laboratory settings presented in the corresponding NURS B1LV. Prerequisite: Appropriate standing in the VN Program and concurrent enrollment in NURS B1LV. Hours: 64 lect. CCS: Occupational Education. Not Transferable: Associate Degree only.
