    An examination of the relationships among dominant and minority groups, the nature of prejudice, and patterns of discrimination; the role of immigration in the creation of minority status; the role of religious difference in a pluralistic society; the relationship of minority status to economic standing; consideration of American Indians, black Americans, Chicanos, Chinese Americans, Japanese Americans, other Asian Americans, and Jewish Americans; consideration of women as an oppressed majority sharing characteristics with minorities; international problems of race, ethnicity, and poverty.     Basic principles of ultrasound physics and machine operation. This course includes the following: physics of sound, propagation of sound in tissue, transducers, Doppler principles, beam formation, transmission and modification, artifacts, biologic effects of ultrasound and quality assurance methods. Image acquisition, processing and storage will also be covered. Laboratory sessions with practice on tissue equivalent ultrasound phantoms. Recommended: MATH BD/B200D, BIOL B18, MEDS B60. Introduction to the Spanish language and culture by means of a program that involves video, audio, and print media into an integrated method of 'planned immersion.'
