    Provides an overview of contemporary family-centered childbirth, incorporating the self-care movement and changing roles of the nurse. Legal and ethical issues of maternal/newborn nursing are discussed. Coverage of maternal/newborn nursing uses a nursing process approach for antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and neonatal care. Prerequisites: Completion of the first semester of ADN or second semester VN program or evaluation by program director for skills and knowledge, concurrent enrollment in NURS B7L. Hours: 27 lect.     This level 3 course is designed for the LVN who is pursuing licensure as an RN or the RN who wants to update skills to reenter the workforce. The focus is on the development of critical thinking skills, physical assessment, the nursing process, role transition, and clinical skill competencies. The roles of provider of care, manager of care, and member of the profession are integrated throughout the course. The lab correlates with the didactic portion and provides an opportunity for application of concepts in the Nursing Skills Lab. Prerequisite: LVN or RN licensure; or Nursing student with evaluation of skills and knowledge by the ADN Program Director. Recommended: None. Hours: 27 lect, 27 lab. Repeat: 2. Offered: F, S.     Provides a foundation for psychiatric/mental health nursing using the nursing process, growth and development concepts and psychosocial principles as the framework for presenting the health problems and special concerns of clients with mental/emotional or chemical dependency problems. Legal and ethical issues, communicating/responding strategies, assessment techniques and treatment approaches are discussed. Prerequisites: Completion of first and second semesters of ADN program or evaluation by program director for skills and knowledge, concurrent enrollment in NURS B8L. Hours: 36 lect. Offered: F, S.     Focus is on the integration of all previous knowledge in assuming the leadership role of the professional nurse providing nursing care at an advanced level to clients with critical and complex disease states and to groups of clients.     Correlated laboratory experiences are provided with emphasis on providing care at an advanced level to clients with critical and complex disease states and to groups of clients. Concepts presented in NURS B9 and B10 are applied in a variety of healthcare facilities. Prerequisites: Completion of first, second, third semesters of ADN program or evaluation by program director for skills and knowledge, concurrent enrollment in NURS B9 and B10. Hours: 270 laboratory by arrangement. Offered: F, S. CCS: Occupational Education. Transferable: CSU and private colleges.
