    This Level 2 course focuses on the development of the knowledge base and skills to care for patients across the lifespan, in various settings, who have higher acuity and more complex nursing needs. The nursing process is the framework for identification and treatment of health problems, and other concerns. Correlated clinical experiences emphasize clinical decision making, patient care management, including prioritization of care, and development of psychomotor skills. Leadership and management knowledge and skills are integrated in both the theory and clinical components. The roles of Provider of Care, Manager of Care, and Member of the Profession are integrated throughout the course.     This Level 2 course provides a foundation for theoretical and technical knowledge base while caring for the contemporary family centered childbirth. Parent/newborn issues are viewed from a nursing process approach for the antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and neonatal client. Correlated clinical experiences emphasize clinical decision making, patient care management, including prioritization of care, and development of psychomotor skills. The roles of Provider of Care, Manager of Care, and Member of the Profession are integrated in both the theory and the clinical components.     This Level 2 course provides an introduction to Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing, using the nursing process as the framework to promote psychosocial integrity within the context of the health illness continuum across the life span. Emphasis is on therapeutic interactions and communications, bio-psychosocial rehabilitation and therapeutic use of self. Correlated clinical experiences will provide opportunities for students to participate in therapeutic activities in a variety of mental health settings. The roles of Provider of Care, Manager of Care, and Member of the Profession are integrated in both the theory and the clinical components.     Provides learning experience during which students gain instruction in developing nursing laboratory assignments. Covers nursing process in creating a nursing care plan and organizing data for planned delivery of client care.     Provides laboratory time during which students may obtain hands-on experience practicing ECG dysrhythmia interpretation including sinus rhythm, atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, premature ventricular contractions, ventricular tachycardia, ventricular fibrillation, asystole, paced rhythms, and supraventricular tachycardia. Students will refine their abilities to recognize and interpret common and serious dysrhythmias, gain training and practice on a variety of rhythm strips and become effective practitioners of dysrhythmia recognition. Prerequisite: Concurrent enrollment in NURS B9 and B9L or evaluation by instructor of student's ECG ability. Hours: 9 by arrangement. Open entry/open exit. Offered: F, S. CCS: Occupational Education.     Provides laboratory time during which students may obtain hands-on experience practicing arterial blood gas analysis. Students will refine their abilities to interpret arterial blood gases, gain training and become effective practitioners of arterial blood gas analysis.     Provides reinforcement and remedial instruction through the use of computer assisted instruction (CAI). Assignments would include nursing process, administering medications, how to avoid medication errors, and how to recognize conditions that need a nurse. These CAI's incorporate the nursing process, research, analysis, organization and computers. Prerequisite: Concurrent enrollment in a nursing course. Hours: 9 by arrangement. Open entry/open exit.   • 1.00 - 3.00 Credits

    Provides registered nursing students with an extended opportunity to obtain supervised clinical experience in the application of previously learned knowledge and skills in selected clinical areas. This will increase the confidence, critical thinking skills, competency and better prepare students as they assume the role of the professional student nurse and progress toward the nurse extern and graduate nurse. Prerequisite: Current enrollment and completion of at least the 1st semester of the Associate Degree Nursing Program. Hours: 54-162 by arrangement. Repeat: 3. CCS: Occupational Education.
