An examination of the relationships among dominant and minority groups, the nature of prejudice, and patterns of discrimination; the role of immigration in the creation of minority status; the role of religious difference in a pluralistic society; the relationship of minority status to economic standing; consideration on American Indians, black Americans, Chicanos, Chinese Americans, Japanese Americans, other Asian Americans, and Jewish Americans; consideration of women as an oppressed majority sharing characteristics with minorities; international problems of race, ethnicity, and poverty. Study of human services organizations. Work internship under supervision in a human services field. Emphasizes integrating theory with practical application. Participation criteria may vary among the participating human services agencies. Signature of the instructor or the Program Director is required to register for this class. Recommended: Reading Level 5 or 6, English Level 5. Hours: 1 unit: 18 hours seminar and 54 hours field work; 2 units: 18 hours seminar and 108 hours field work; 3 units: 36 hours seminar and 162 hours field work; 4 units: 36 hours seminar and 216 hours field work. An introduction to social gerontology. Students from a variety of disciplines who work with the elderly or who have a special interest in the aging process will benefit from this course. Topics include historical and cross-cultural perspectives on aging; theories of aging; the biological, psychological, and social aspects of aging; current social and public policies; availability, delivery and use of services for the elderly; death, dying and bereavement and successful aging. Emphasizes technology skills that are necessary to function as an entrylevel CAD operator. Prerequisite: INDR B10 and INDR B11 or equivalent experience to be evaluated by the instructor. Basic and advanced parametric modeling techniques to create three-dimensional models of mechanical objects, then use these models to generate two-dimensional drawings (including views, sections, details, and dimensions) as well as assembly drawings (technical illustrations) and animations.
