It is designed to enable all students to understand the role of stress in their lives. The course focuses on the multidimensional nature of stress, the role of stress in the etiology of many chronic diseases, and the development of a personal stress management plan. It is based on a holistic approach to stress management, rather than an approach that just teaches a variety of individual coping techniques. (CSU, AVC)

1 unit 40 hours total Limitation on Enrollment: Physical examination will be required. Fingerprints are required by the State of California. Necessary forms are available in APL 121B four weeks prior to start of course. Prerequisite: Completion of NA 101 or current California Certified Nurse Aide certificate. Advisory: Eligibility for READ 097. California driver's license recommended. A course in selected fundamental nursing skills needed to care for the home-bound patient. The course includes clinical practice in a long-term care facility and home care facility. Emphasis on the role and responsibilities of the home health aide, safety principles, infection control, basic patient care skills, and emotional, social, and spiritual needs. Course approved by the California Department of Health Services. The California Department of Health Services requires fingerprints to be on file with it before students go to the clinical area. Physical screening is required, and physical examination may be required. The student may not have any felony convictions. Certification as Home Health Aide awarded upon successful completion. (AVC)

The civilizations of Ancient and Classical periods will be studied along with the growth of Islam in Eurasia and Africa, the regional influence of India and China, the expansion of Christianity, and the impact of the Mongol empire on Eurasian civilizations.
