Survey of the basic photographic principles, theories and techniques used in representing the human figure using draped and undraped models. Projects emphasize the organization of the human figure as a 3-dimensional image and composition where the environmental factors of lighting, shading, and texture are combined to create an artistic representation. Both chemical and digital processing of the human image will be studied. Students may have to purchase additional supplies not provided by the college. (CSU, AVC) ( R2)

An advanced study of the multiple elements of commercial publishing using the microcomputer. Designed to provide an advanced level in the use of electronic page layout techniques including video ditherizing, image transfer, graphics production software, graphic scanners, text processing, and output production devices such as laser and thermal image printers. Instructional materials fee required for this course and must be paid at registration. Survey of more complex elements of image alteration using digital techniques. This course covers advanced color scanning techniques, transfer of digital imagery to 35mm slides and the conversion of 35 mm photographic images to digital format using flat-bed scanners, drum scanners, digital studio cameras, and camcorders. Additional emphasis will be on in-depth use of various digital imaging software for special effects. (CSU, AVC) ( R2)

The course is designed to provide students with an advanced knowledge of electronic publishing through "hands-on" experience in the use ofcomputer techniques using the Macintosh computer in publishing of newspapers, magazines, newsletters, and books. Students will develop advanced skills in the use of electronic photographic imaging, computer illustration, desktop publishing, HyperCard, and halftone and line photography. (CSU, AVC) ( R2)
