    5-6 units 1.5-20 hours weekly Prerequisite: Completion of any of the following AUTO courses: 102, 110, 111, 112, 125, 126, 127, 128, 130, 150, 151, 152, 153, 175, 176, 177, 200, 231, 232, 276, 277 or 278. Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099 and MATH 070. Class designed strictly for automotive work. Students enrolled in this class are expected to work in areas previously studied so as to gain additional experience in live shop operation. Students will work on jobs of their own choosing or jobs assigned by the instructor. Work will be performed to trade and industry standards. (AVC) ( R3)

A course intended to prepare students for an entry level position in automatic transmission diagnosis and repair. Course will cover fundamentals, maintenance, service, and repair of late model General Motors transmissions and transaxles. Required course for automotive certificate in automotive engines and drive trains. (AVC)

    8 units 140 hours total Advisory: Completion of AUTO 100, AUTO 150, AUTO 176 and AUTO 177, and Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099 and MATH 070. This course is designed to prepare students to take the California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR) Smog Check licensing exam. The prerequisite to taking this exam for licensing is one year of trade experience in emissions/ tune-up or equivalent formal education. Other interested parties are allowed to take the course but will not be certified as eligible to take the licensing examination given by the BAR. (AVC)

    4 units 72 hours total Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 099, READ 099 and MATH 070. A course designed for students preparing for a career in the automotive profession. Course will cover General Motors microprocessor controlled ignition and fuel systems. Subjects covered include microprocessor operation, sensors, actuators, and closed loop operation. Special emphasis will be placed on diagnosis and testing of electronic components. Students who successfully complete course are prepared for entry level job position in the area of engine performance. BEFORE ENROLLING it is advised that students should have a background in engine performance and electrical systems. (AVC)

    1 -107 hours total Limitation on Enrollment: This course is designed for individuals reading below the fifth grade level. Emphasis is on learning about work, business, careers, and goals as well as the value of teamwork, authority, responsibility, and accountability. Major areas covered include: job search skills, completing application forms, interview techniques, work ethics, and job retention skills. This program would be most beneficial for Welfare to Work (WtW) and Workforce Investment Act (WIA) recipients. Students may repeat this course until course objectives are attained.

    1-107 hours total Limitation on Enrollment: This course is designed for individuals with math and reading levels below the second grade. This course is designed to cover arithmetic fundamentals for those students functioning below second grade level. This course covers: reading and writing whole numbers, place value, and addition and subtraction of whole numbers relating to life and workplace skills. This program would be most beneficial for Welfare to Work (WtW) and Workforce Investment Act (WIA) recipients. This course is repeatable until the student reaches a level of proficiency at or above the second grade.

    1-107 hours total Limitation on Enrollment: This course is designed for individuals with math and reading levels below the second grade. This course is designed to cover arithmetic fundamentals for those students functioning between second and fifth grade levels. This course covers: multiplication and division of whole numbers, identification of place value in whole numbers and decimals, and addition and subtraction with decimals. This program would be most beneficial for Welfare to Work (WtW) and Workforce Investment Act (WIA) recipients. This course is repeatable until the student reaches a level of proficiency at or above the fifth grade.

    6 hours total Limitation on Enrollment: This course is designed for individuals reading below the fifth grade level. The topics covered in the Learning Skills/ Life Skills orientation workshop include: tour of AVC campus; tour of Counseling, Learning Center, Job Placement Center and Library; explanation of 32-35 hour requirement and pre-GED goals; managing school related stress; introduction to Computer Lab and Job Placement Center and their services; testing: Reading- Level Indicator, and KeyMath diagnostic Inventory of Essential Mathematics. This program would be most beneficial for Welfare to Work (WtW) and Workforce Investment Act (WIA) recipients. This course is not repeatable.
