    (formerly Makeup for Stage and Film) 2 units 4 hours weekly Advisory: Completion of THA 110. Instructional materials fee required for this course and must be paid at registration. Introduction to the materials, principles, techniques, and methods of makeup application for the stage. This course will introduce students to basic corrective, period, character, old-age, and stylized make-up. Students will be encouraged to experiment and form their own designs.     1-4 units hours vary Prerequisite: Students must be registered in at least 7 units (including the Work Experience units) and have approval of instructor supervising work experience subject area. Prior to enrolling, students must attend a scheduled orientation. The Work Experience program provides supervised employment extending classroom-based learning to an on-thejob learning situation. Students meet with instructor by arrangement to discuss learning objectives, along with experiences and/or problems arising on the job. (CSU, AVC) ( R3)

    3 units 4 hours weekly Prerequisite: Completion of THA 125. Introduces the acting student to more in-depth work with character and text through analysis and performance of monologues and scenes from non-realistic dramatic literature, including Greek tragedy/comedy, Shakespeare, mannered comedy, absurdism and avant-garde. Students will prepare performance level scene studies and review their work based on class critiques. (CSU, UC, AVC) ( R1)

    3 units 4 hours weekly Prerequisite: Completion of THA 110. Introduces the acting student to the principles and techniques of various performance methods involved in acting for the camera, including physical motivation, using the camera as a character, takes and retakes. Students will prepare performance level scene studies, including written analysis, and then revise their work based on class critiques. (CSU, AVC) ( R1)

    3 units 4 hours weekly Prerequisite: Completion of THA 110. This class is designed to equip Theatre Arts/Acting majors and other students serious about a career as a performer with the necessary tools to audition well and become knowledgeable with the audition process as they pursue their careers in film, theatre, and television. The course will be a valuable asset to the students as they learn, experience, and explore not only the techniques of a successful audition but also the challenges of being a working professional actor.     3 units 4 hours weekly Prerequisite: Completion of THA 101 or THA 110. An introduction to the fundamental techniques of stage directing, including text analysis, stage composition, blocking, picturization, working with actors, styles and genres, working with designers, and formulating a creative vision. These techniques will be applied to in-class scene work. (CSU, UC, AVC) ( R1)

    3 units 3 hours weekly Prerequisite: Completion of ENGL 101. An introduction to writing plays, emphasizing the creation of dramatic tension, motivated actions, three dimensional characters, and believable dialogue. The essential elements of dramatic structure are covered. The writer's individual voice is developed using exercises in the writing of scenes and a one act play. Class discussions emphasize the value of giving and receiving criticism as a basis for revising plays. The course culminates in a public presentation of selected scenes from student work, produced as a class project. (CSU, UC, AVC) ( R3)

    3 units 3 hours weekly Advisory: Eligibility for ENGL 099 and READ 099. Images of women, African-Americans, Hispanics, Asian-Americans, Native Americans, gays and lesbians in the theater and through selected plays. This course covers the evolution of racial, ethnic and sexual stereotypes in the theater, including the racist and sexist origins of those stereotypes, and efforts to more accurately and fairly portray sexual, racial, and ethnic diversity in the American theater. In addition, contributions from theater artists from various backgrounds are highlighted. Representative plays are used as the basis for class discussion. (CSU, UC, AVC)

Attendance and periodic student/ instructor conferences required. Content to be determined by student/instructor conferences. Scope of project should be appropriate to the number of units of credit for the course. Larger projects requiring additional hours should enroll in THA 298B or 298C. (CSU, AVC) ( R1)

    2 units 4.6 hours weekly Limitation on Enrollment: Review of portfolio/audition/interview. Individual study or projects in the field of Theatre Arts under instructor guidance. Attendance and periodic student/ instructor conferences required. Content to be determined by student/instructor conferences. Scope of project should be appropriate to the number of units of credit for the course. Smaller projects requiring fewer hours should enroll in THA 298A.
