Twenty four hours. Prerequisite: Sign Language 121. Acceptable for credit: CSU A beginning interpreter training course for students who are fluent in American Sign Language. Emphasizes the theories of interpretation, the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf Code of ethics, registers, repetitive motion injury, models of interpretation and practical solution to problematic situations as well as practical applications. Twenty four hours. Prerequisite: Sign Language 122. Acceptable for credit: CSU Designed for students who are fluent in American Sign Language. Topics include interpreting on the lexical, phrase, sentence and whole text level. Text analysis, determination of implicit, explicit and stylistic meanings will be covered as well as the technical vocabulary for interpreting in the field of computer technology and the educational setting. Acceptable for credit: CSU, UC Continuing development of skills learned Sign Language 121 emphasizing ASL grammar, vocabulary and idiomatic constructions. Provides an opportunity for further development of conversational techniques, focusing on expressive and receptive skill. Deaf cultural issues, non-manual markers, advanced classifiers and numbering systems will be explored. (GR/P/NP) (F2,S1)
