Community Corrections, probation, and parole and philosophy and design of various programs throughout the country are addressed. Community-based punishments are contrasted and compared to incarceration in terms of goals, costs and perceived benefits. Alternatives to incarceration are discussed in areas such as electronic monitoring and house arrest, intensive supervision, probation and shock incarceration. Special needs offenders and requirements of their supervision are also examined. Prerequisite: CJ 101 or CJ 217.
