This course is designed to familiarize the student with the methods and techniques used in showing horses. Emphasis will be on the preparation of the horse for a show, riding methods, techniques for different levels of horses and care of the horse after the show. Braiding, training, hauling, and knowledge of horse show rules will be included. Participation is required in a minimum of one of the following: an open local show, a schooling hunter show, a dressage show, a combined test or a horse trial. Prerequisite: Consent of instructor.

This course will instruct the student in the specific practice of equine assisted psychotherapy. The focus is on the application of clinical techniques involving the horse as a psychotherapeutic tool. Approximately 50 percent of the course will be conducted in a traditional classroom setting; the remaining class time will be spent in the Midway College Equestrian Center or other field location. Prerequisites: PSY 200, EQS 101-104, EQS 165, EQS 215 (formerly numbered EQS 205) or consent of instructor.

This course is designed to expose the student to the basic fundamentals of training a competitive reining horse. The reining horse is a highly trained animal that requires a very knowledgeable rider. A rider must be well versed in basic horsemanship prior to riding or training a reining horse. The reining horse is analogous to the upper level dressage horse in the hunt seat discipline. Prerequisite: Grade of "B" or higher in EQS 211.
