An in-depth study of the diatonic vocabulary of the common practice period. A progressive and in-depth study of modulations and chromatic harmony of the common practice period with constant review and application of materials learned in MUSC 131 and MUSC 132. Skills corroborate theory with studies and practice in melodic and harmonic dictation, sight singing, score reading, rhythmic reading, listening and vocabulary. Prerequisite: MUSC 132. Credit, 3 hours. Offered each fall semester.

This course provides intensive study of specific music styles or cultures throughout the world. Seminar topics may include the music of Latin America, Africa, Asia, India and the Middle East as well as various American styles including jazz, pop and rock, Appalachian, country, bluegrass, and music theater. Credit, 3 hours. Offered each spring semester.
