    American music history will focus on the economic and social changes that have shaped and also been shaped by the nation's unique musical history. As each era's music reveals many of the most significant changes of our history, a study of the varying musical styles will give insight into the complexity of our multicultural American past. This class will examine how the music of each era is symbolic of the historical circumstances of the time. Students will be able to describe the musical styles of the time periods and also the historical factors associated with the music. It focuses on the historic importance of Minnesota's geography and natural resources, American Indian-white relations, the development of Minnesota's unique political tradition, and the emergence of Minnesota's diverse society and economy.     This course will investigate the inhabitants of continental America before, during, and after the arrival of Europeans. An in-depth analysis of different Indian societies and how they were affected by their environment, social, economic, and political realities of their time. Students will look at their own pre-knowledge of Indian societies and will check it for misconceptions or generalizations that may or may not be true. Students will also learn to research and investigate historical topics related to American Indians through the use of historical research techniques.     This course introduces basic nursing care, skills and concepts in preparation for clinical experience in a nursing home. Upon successful completion of this course and clinical experience, students are eligible to take the Nursing Assistant Test-Out exam for placement on State of MN Nursing Assistant Registry. Skill set includes at least 40 hours of lab and 24 hours of clinical at an approved licensed nursing home. (Prerequisites: The following Health Care Core Curriculum modules must be completed: 1) Awareness & Sensitivity to Client Needs 2) Behaviors for Success in Healthcare Settings 3) Communications in Healthcare Settings 4) Healthcare Safety & Standard Precautions 5) Legal Issues in Healthcare 6) Healthcare Ethics 7) Respecting Client & Staff Diversity. All 7 modules must be at least 64 hours in length.) (2 credits: 0 lec/2 lab) This course is open only to high school students with permission of their counselor/principal.     This 48 hour (2 credit) online Nursing Assistant class will cover theory and video skills. Covered pieces will include skills, attitudes, and knowledge essential in giving direct and supportive care in long term care facilities. Skills have been videoed and will be shared with students and each skill will have a test following each unit. Students will be expected to be a part of zoom meetings for reviews before tests, have questions answered and network with students. (Prerequisites: none) (2 credits: 1 lecture/1 lab)

    In this section, students will be brought in to finish their clinicals either face-to-face if permitted or online. Students will review on skills and theory learned in HLTH1096 and do demonstrations back to the instructors showing knowledge of the skill to be signed off on. The 32 hours must be completed to receive credit. If allowed, students would complete 16 hours of skill and theory review and 16 hours of clinical rotation at a long-term care facility in person. (Prerequisites: HLTH1096) (1 credit: 0 lecture/1 lab)

    This 80-hour, 3 credit course develops skills, attitudes and knowledge essential for direct and supportive care in long-term care facilities. Class meets OBRA requirements and MN Board of Nursing standards. Skills are demonstrated in supervised laboratory setting. This is a prerequisite for incoming PN students. Note: Dependent on which location you choose, the labs will be done at that campus. The 80-hour MN Nursing Assistant class and being placed on the MN Registry does not qualify Nurse Aides to work in WI. (Prerequisites: none) (3 credits: 1 lecture/2 lab)

    This 120-hour course prepares students for employment as entry-level nursing assistants in long-term care settings, hospitals, or adult day care facilities. The program provides training in communications, personal care, basic nursing skills, assisting individuals in maintaining independence and promoting rehabilitation, and appropriate interaction with individuals with Alzheimer's disease, and related dementias. The program consists of 88 hours of classroom/laboratory activities and 32 hours clinical experience. Upon successful completion, students are eligible to test for the Nurse Aide Registry. Students must bring results of a recent mantoux test (taken up to 90 days prior to class start date) on first day of class. Students will be required to have a background check by submitting paperwork the first day of class. If background check does not pass, student will not be allowed to attend clinicals and a refund will not be issued. (Prerequisite: none) (5 credits: 2 lecture/3 lab)
