ARR This course seeks to equip the church planter to understand and guide the development of a new church during the first five years. It addresses growth stages, growth issues, adding staff, accreditation issues, as well as practical church management strategy. The course addresses facility needs and when is the time to purchase or build the first church owned facility. It also addresses the oversight and management of church finances. Offered alternate years (Spring 2008).

1 cr. Preparation for newteaching assistants covering classroommanagement, departmental policies, safety procedures, handling of hazardous materials and waste disposal. One day-long workshop and several followup sessions for a total of 12-13 hours. Prerequisite: junior standing and permission of instructor, and employed status as chemistry TA.

4 cr. An intensive study of acid-base concepts,bonding, ligand field theory,molecular orbital and symmetry principles, reactions, energetics, coordination compounds, organometallic and bioinorganic chemistry.Laboratory focuses on synthesis and reactions of a broad range of inorganic and organometallic compounds. Three 50- minute lectures,one 3-hour lab aweek.Prerequisite: C- or higher in CHM1120,2210,3000. (Offered fall semester in odd academic years; i.e., 2007-08)

4 cr. An introduction to original laboratory research in collaboration with a faculty member; requiring literature searching, experimental planning, a minimum of 8 hours laboratory work a week, a final written report and an oral presentation of the work. Prerequisite: junior standing, application according to departmental policy and permission of the instructor.

A detailed study of instrumentation for chemical analysis andmethod selection.Topics covered include ultraviolet- visible spectroscopy, atomic absorption and emission, polarography and voltammetry, thermal analysis,and chromatography. Two 50-minute lectures and two 3-hour labs eachweek,or three 50-minute lectures plus one 4-hour lab a week. Prerequisite: C- or higher in CHM2210,3000. (Offered fall semester in odd academic years; i.e., 2007-08).

An introduction to the chemical interactions among earth, air, water, and living environments, with some emphasis on ecological damage, toxicology,ecosystem interdependence and repair of environmental damage. Three 50-minute lectures a week for one-half semester Prerequisite: C- or higher in CHM 1120; CHM 2210 and 3000 suggested. (Offered in conjunctionwith either CHM4325 or 4335 spring semester in even academic years; i.e., 2008-09).

An overview of the principles of sustainability,encompassing development in the industrialized and developing nations,equitable and efficient use of resources, sustainable use of public property and sustainable economies in agriculture andmanufacturing.Three 50- min lectures a week for one-half semester.(Offered in conjunction with either CHM 4325 or 4330 spring semester in even academic years; i.e., 2008-09).

SPRING A course designed to provide a basis for counseling by the pastor and church leaders. Various counseling styles and methods will be considered and related to typical situations faced in church ministry. Counseling ethics, referral, and the integration with other forms of pastoral staff care will be emphasized (e.g. premarital, crisis, guidance, grief, death, and dying). (Also PSY 450X) Prerequisite: PSY 330 or the consent of the instructor.

FALL or SPRING This course is designed as a capstone course for Christian Ministry majors in their senior year. This course addresses preparedness for ministry issues, including resume writing, interviewing and ways to search for future ministry positions. The capstone of the student's academic program will include the development of the student's philosophy for a disciple-making ministry.
