Credits: 4 Prerequisite: none This course is designed to help the medical secretary to analyze word roots, prefixes, suffixes, and abbreviations common to the medical profession. By combining the techniques of word roots, prefixes, and suffixes, the medical secretary will be able to spell, pronounce, and locate words in the medical references. The student will then be able to relate these terms to the structures and systems of the body. This course will cover about 5 of the 10 body systems. Transfer Curriculum Goal(s): none

The main emphasis is placed on utilizing the computers for the procedures that we accomplished in Medical Office Procedures I. The main emphasis is computerized scheduling, billing, patient accounting, transcription of progress notes, patient aging of accounts, day sheets, and computerized insurance claims. This course also includes manual and electronic storage and retrieval with attention to medical record document retention plans, storage, retrieval devices, and final disposition of medical documents.
