    Credits: 5 Prerequisite: Accuplacer reading comprehension score of 32-55 This course is designed for students who wish to improve their basic reading skills. Coursework includes developing a set of strategies for reading and responding to different types of college textbook reading with an emphasis on general comprehension of written material, vocabulary development, and effective study techniques. A combination of individual and group work will use both printed material and computers. (Placement into this course will be according to the college reading assessment score).     Credits: 3 Prerequisite: appropriate Accuplacer score Applying critical thinking skills to college reading is the focus of this course. This course provides students who read at the college level with strategies for successfully accomplishing the reading requirements of college texts and supplemental materials. Emphasis on engaging in reading using a critical thinking problem-solving approach will support students in developing their own learning strategies to succeed in a variety of college reading situations. Students will practice using basic problem solving strategies, distinguishing between fact and opinion, recognizing purpose and tone, and evaluating and creating arguments.     Credits: 3 Prerequisite: Accuplacer reading comprehension score of 56-77, or successful completion of READ 0591 This course emphasizes critical reading strategies and college- level vocabulary. It presents college reading as information processing and focuses on strategies for improving comprehension, selection, organization, and recall. Reading materials represent a variety of academic disciplines and occupational areas. A combination of individual and group work will use both printed material and computers.     Credits: 2 Prerequisite: none In this class the business owner or manager will conduct a self-study of the business and analysis of the various business systems. The results will be used to begin the process of establishing a new or updated business plan, including a mission statement, vision statement, and business goals. Transfer Curriculum Goal(s): none

    Credits: 3 Prerequisite: none In this class the business owner or manager will begin the process of creating or updating a business plan. The course will include an overview of the business planning process, the individual components of a business plan and the process for building a business plan.     Credits: 3 Prerequisite: none In this class the business owner or manager will study accounting and record keeping systems for a small business, how profit and loss statements and balance sheets are constructed along with cash flow statements in a business. Transfer Curriculum Goal(s): none

    Credits: 3 Prerequisite: none In this class the business owner or manager will study product pricing for optimizing business profits, budgeting to monitor business revenues and expenses, and cost control options for the small business The student will also create a break-even analysis of the business and study the effect of different business decisions using break-even analysis.
