    Students in Ballet in Performance will refine their ballet technique both in the classroom and on stage. Class time will be divided to include; full participation in intermediate ballet technique in order to improve alignment, strength, flexibility, endurance and expression; the study of classical and contemporary theories in choreography; and practical strategies to prepare for performance. Students will participate in a performance at the end of the semester.     Hip-Hop Dance is designed to provide students with a broad perspective on movement in the dance form of Hip-Hop. Students will also study the many different styles of dance that exist under the umbrella of Hip-Hop, For example, students will study popping. locking, snaking, waving and breaking, among others.     Jazz dance includes the development of barre and floor jazz technique from 20th and 21st century styles. Emphasis is on using ballet technique to produce strong, sharp movements, jumps and turns. Also included are originality, improvisation, and expression through syncopation of dance and music and grandiose body movements. Jazz history and connections to music are included. Students will participate in a dance performance.     Jazz II includes intermediate jazz technique as well as jazz history. Students will learn proper vocabulary; proper execution of dance movements; study of body/endurance, and flexibility work. Stduents will also study the history of jazz through observing, describing, discussing and writing movement ideas.     Modern dance is a story of the fundamentals of modern dance technique. Emphasis is on cultivating knowledge and application of 20th century modern dance forms spanning the early pioneers (graham, St. Denis, Shawn and Humphrey) through later methods and techniques of Cunningham and Horton. Connections to music, theater and art and objective dance criticism are included. Students participate in a dance performance.     Utilizing basic dance skills from Modern Dance I, the student in Modern Dance II learns advanced techniques and skills to attain proficiency. While the emphasis is on sound technique, time is also reserved for creative activity. A study of the history of modern dance will continue with emphasis on dance figures following the era of the four pioneers.     World Dance is a study of the fundamentals of West African (Ghana, Burkina Faso, Senegal) and Caribbean (Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Haiti and Cuba) dance styles. Emphasis is on cultivating relevant technique(s) as well as increasing self-expression through an expanded movement vocabulary. Students will learn sharp rib and hip coordinations of the African dances, and folk and modern Latin dances, such as Meringue and Bomba. Focus is on how Afro-Caribbean dances influenced Modern Dance.     World Dance II is a study of traditional dances of India, the Middle East, and Spain, learning the fundamentals of heavily syncopated dance forms such as: Katak, Flamenco and Belly Dancing. Emphasis is on cultivating relevant technique(s) as well as increasing self-expression through an expanded movement vocabulary. Students will learn articulated foot patterns to the challenging rhythms of each culture. Focus is on connections between Eastern and Western dance forms.     Dance performance I will include intermediate ballet, modern and/or jazz training in both classical technique and improvisation. Emphasis is on technique and dance production, including: choreography, program development, rehearsal, costuming, lighting and audiovisual effects. Students will perform two dance pieces, one of repertory and one that is improvisational.
