This course will provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of contemporary multiple intelligence theories and their application to enhance and elevate students' diverse performance levels. An examination of the organizational and instructional implications of Howard Gardner's Seven Intelligences through review and discussion of research and media will increase participants' awareness of multiple intelligence theory and its application to self-evaluation, lesson planning and classroom organization, with an emphasis on addressing the needs of the special education student. 6 PDPs.

How to Use Color Effectively Every Day Would you like to know which color would look better the blue one or the yellow one - the dark one or the light one? Everyday life is full of these choices. How do you decide? Colors can be combined and work together to create the harmony or mood that you desire. This class will give you sound color theory and show you how to use it in your own environment. You will look at your own wardrobes, dwellings, gardens, offices, and visual art to learn what works for you and what doesn't. When you leave this course you'll know your own color preferences and how to use them effectively with confidence and pleasure. Bring to class any color media you have, i.e. felt pens, colored pencils, gouache. Other materials may also be required. A camera would be useful.

mutually acceptable resolution to their conflict. Training Basic Mediation Training The faculty of North Shore Community Mediation Program (NSCMP) is offering a 34 hour Basic Mediation Training. The NSCMP, a non-profit organization providing mediation services and education, has designed this training for participants who want to learn the general practice of mediation. Mediation is a widely accepted form of Dispute Resolution which is responsive to a broad range of conflicts The training is highly interactive, combining exercises, discussions, demonstrations, presentations and role-playing. Training topics to be covered are an overview of mediation methods and practices; the nature and dynamics of conflict; ethical dilemmas, including mediator-bias; issues of diversity; and the practice of impartiality. You will learn about the role and skills of a mediator; such as active listening, learning the perspectives of the disputants, defining the issues and positions, facilitating communication, dealing with power imbalances, and generating possible options for settlement. The text and handouts are provided in the course fee. You will receive a certificate of completion for the course and 34 Professional Development Points or 3.4 CEUs. With this course, followed by a MAMPP proscribed apprenticeship with a Community Mediation Program you will meet the guidelines for becoming a mediator. Registrants must agree to attend and participate in all the training sessions. Opportunities to apprentice as a mediator with the NSCMP will be made available to individuals who successfully complete this training.
