Urban Tree Care Pre: Co: The fundamentals of safe and effective arboricultural practices. Technical information is presented regarding the care of ornamental trees as well as trees of our urban forests. Students receive practical training in rope handling, climbing, chainsawing, cabling, pruning, take-down and removal. This course along with Arboriculture 2 is recommended for students planning to take the Massachusetts Certified Arborist Exam. (2 hours of lecture, 3 hours of lab per week)

Urban Tree Care 2 Pre: Co: Arboriculture principles and practices for students planning to take the Massachusetts Arborist exam. Students expand on skills and knowledge developed in Arboriculture 1, including identification, cultural requirements, tree physiology, pest control and climbing techniques.

Surveying Pre: Co: An introductory study of the methods used to obtain measurements by the landscaping industry essential in the planning, estimating and construction process. The course will include methods of obtaining linear, vertical, and angular measurements. The student will become proficient with the surveyor's tape, builders level and transits. (2 hours of lecture, 3 hours of lab per week)

Landscape Design Pre: Co: An introduction to landscape design including site analysis techniques, and development of site organization. Selection of design elements such as plant material, paving and site furnishings are included. Homes located nearby are used as case studies for evaluation, analysis and design consideration. (2 hours of lecture, 4 hours of lab per week)

Plant Pathology Pre: Co: An introduction to the nature, cause, transmission and control of plant diseases. Emphasis is given to the major classes of plant parasites including fungi, bacteria, viruses and nematodes. Laboratories include inoculation experiments and follow up symptom identification and control. (2 hours of lecture, 2 hours of lab per week)

Herbaceous Perennial Plants Pre: Co: An introduction of perennial plant identification and culture. Plant materials studied include garden biennials, perennials, bulbs, ground covers, vines, ferns, wildflower and roses. Greenhouse production of perenial plants is included. (2 hours of lecture, 2 hours of lab per week)

Greenhouse Operations and Equipment Pre: Mathematics Proficiency Co: This course introduces the student to all aspects of the commercial greenhouse. GH construction styles, coverings, heat and ventilation, mechanization, irrigation and fertilizing systems are examined. Basic theories on growth regulation, fertilization, and commercial propagation methods and crop choices are introduced. (2 hours of lecture, 2 hours of lab per week) (Formerly FLR201)

Greenhouse Crop Production 2 Pre: Mathematics Proficiency Co: This course is designed around the selection and marketing of annual Spring bedding plant crops and hanging baskets. Additional skills to be covered include IPM, crop scheduling and space allocation, pest identification and management, and retail marketing strategies. It is recommended but not necessary for students to have taken HRT212 (formerly FLR201) prior to this class. (2 hours of lecture, 4 hours of lab per week) (Formerly FLR202)

Plant Disease PRE: CO: An introduction to the nature, cause, transmission and control of plant diseases. Plant disease control methods that are environmentally and economically sound will be covered.

Historic Gardens of the North Shore Pre: Co: This course will focus on several historic North Shore gardens. We will focus on the history, design and plant materials used at construction and examine the changes made to present date.
