Working together, we will improve your hand, develop new and exciting skills, and show you how to break the rules-to develop original style.     Basic Drawing 1 Pre: Co: Elect: Students will learn the basic skills involved in drawing through a variety of exercises in a relaxed introductory course. Observational and expressive skills will improve along with technical ability in the medium used. These materials should be brought to the first class: one 18" x 24" newsprint pad, sticks of vine charcoal, two soft charcoal pencils, one 6B charcoal pencil, a kneaded and a pink pearl eraser, and a rag.

    Basic Drawing 2 Pre: Pre: Co: Co: Elect: Elect: This intermediate-level class will have a two-fold emphasis to improve powers of observation, and to instill a love and enthusiasm for the process itself! Using traditional and intuitive exercises, we will explore the art of making marks line quality, light & shadow, gestures, contour, scale & composition, and more!     Pre: Co: Elect: FANTASY ART: Make your fantasies real! This course will explore methods of visually creating an otherworldly reality that is successful both as a depiction of fantasy and as a work of art. Examination of past and current masters of fantasy and experimentation with technique will be used to isolate elements that make a work successful. Workshop time will concentrate on aiding students to realize their own images. Please bring examples of the work of favorite artists to the first class. Materials for the course will cost approximately $15.

    Pre: Co: Elect: CALLIGRAPHY: (ENGLISH ROUND HAND): Oftened termed "copperplate" this decorative calligraphic hand is highly embellished and extremely elegant. Though similiar to that which is used on the White House invitations, it is not confined to formal occasions. With contemporary variations, students will discover it's versatility. The elbow nib, dip pen, ink, and paint will be used, and experimentation with papers and textures will be encouraged. Bring calligraphy tool kit, and the instructor will provide additional materials for a $27 reimbursement. This is a second-level course.

    Printmaking Workshop Pre: Co: In this one-day workshop, learn basic printmaking techniques. You will make multiple color plates in linoleum, watercolor, and monotype. Instructor will demonstrate printing methods using water-based inks. Supplies will be provided. A materials fee of $25 per student is payable to the instructor at the first class.

    Pre: Co: Elect: Come and explore your creative potential with a large variety of tectile dyes, paints, tools, and techniques! Students will be provided with information from presentations and hand-outs - helping to understand refractive dyes, pigment paints, crayons, markers, bondeers, binders, and carious mediums through which these can be combined. If you're an artist, crafsperson or interested hobbyist, this is just the course for you! Where else could you learn painting, dyeing, silk screening, stamping, and stenciling in the same class?     Pre: Co: Elect: TEXTILE ART: Fiber/textile art has been attracting a growing number of artists in recent years. We will cover in step by step procedure the technique of direct dye painting from start to an actual finished product. Methods of application (stampling and printing), utilizing other media (pigments and paints), and various additional techniques (weaving, paints), and be included. Each student will be encouraged to learn the techniques and then arrive at his/her own discoveries.
