    Pre: Co: Elect: CALLIGRAPHY (BASIC ITALIC): Using dip pen and traditional methods, we will embark on a wonderful journey! Calligraphy, while primarily used as a craft, also has a vast fine arts potential. This introductory class will prepare you for the trip. We will cover italic-the most versatile of the calligraphy alphabets-and discuss principles of layout and design. Materials will be available from the instructor at the first class for a reimbursement. Approximately $20.00.

    Pre: Co: Elect: INTRODUCTION TO CALLIGRAPHY (ITALIC): This one-day workshop is designed for students who want an intensive overview of calligraphy with a flat-topped pen. Pens, inks and materials will be demonstrated and studetns will learn and practice the popular italic hand. Bring plain white paper, ruler and pencil. Pens may be purchased at class. Please bring a bag lunch, as there will be a one hour lunch break, and lunches are not provided. Class limited to 20 students.

    Pre: Co: Elect: BORDER DESIGN: Calligraphers-would you like to add a touch of traditional artwork and color to your creations? Quilters and Needlepoint enthusiasts-would you like to include more interesting geometric patterns in your designs? This helpful course will utilize a method which is guaranteed to generate remarkable results-even if you cannot draw a straight line! Please bring the following to class; pencil, erasers, scissors, pictures (flowers, leaves, shells, quilts, etc). and a brown bag lunch. Additional materials will be supplied by the instructor for a reimbursement of $16.00.

    Watercolor Landscape Journal Pre: Co: Learn how to paint with watercolors while enjoying the outdoors. Each week we will build sketches and studies, recording impressions of nature in our own watercolor journals. Receive individual instruction in a group setting while exploring composition, form, tone and color. Fundamentals of watercolor techniques will be stressed using a basic landscape watercolor palette. Class meets at the Cummings Center the first week. Please brings a sketchbook, eraser, 2b pencils, and paints for the first day of class. All levels of experience are welcome.

    Pre: Co: Elect: OIL PAINTING 1: Come and explore the medium of oil painting! We will cover basic painting theory and technique - using a variety of subject matter and exercises. There will be group critiques and discussion as well. Bring brushes, oils, palette, tin can, canvas, rag, paint thinner, soap, soft pencil or charcoal, plastic bottle, and linseed oil to class. Materials are available in any good art supply store - tell them it's for oil painting!

    Pre: Co: Elect: CALLIGRAPHY 2: This course is designed for those who already have a good working skill in decorative lettering. studetns will be directed towards individual projects with emphasis on alphabet variations and elaboration, layout design and illumination with color. Previous experience using lettering tools and forming letter forms is required. Besides pens, ink and paper, students should expect to spend approximately $10 on watercolor and other supplies.
