Pre: Co: Elect: ART, CRAFT, & GRAPHICS FOR CALLIGRAPHERS: Learning a calligraphic "hand" is only half the fun -learning how to use color, border design, review various materials, and share studio tips. Specific projects using applicable skills, such as creating greeting cards, designing invitations, envelopes, borders, etc, will be included. Calligraphy skills are essential. Students should bring $20 to the first class for materials. Class limited to 15 students.

Painting Landscapes in Oil and Acrylics Pre: Co: Discover outdoor landscape painting, in oils. Record vibrant summer colors as you develop an understanding of space, perspective, composition and color. Study the diverse styles of landscape art in visual images with a trip to a museum. Demonstrations of paint application and the use of each medium will be given. Open to all skill levels. Class meets at Cummings center the first day of class. Please bring paints and a canvas. Students are responsible for paying their own museum fee.

Pre: Co: Elect: BASIC ILLUSTRATION: Illustration is an art form used to communicate an idea or illustrate a story. This course will teach students how to make the transistion from drawing to illustration for books, magazines, advertising, greeting cards, and other commercial applications. Instruction will include drawing techniques, conceptual approaches, printing reproduction information and marketing. Materials will include pen and ink, washes, watercolor, and markers. Students should bring fell-tip markers and a pad of tracing paper to the first class. Previous drawing experience is recommended.

Pre: Co: Elect: MIXED MEDIA: COLLAGE: Discover the exciting medium of collage. This course is for those who want to explore and develop collage technique, and discover new and exciting ways to channel their creativity. Composition, design and color theory will be introduced, along with a slide show on the history of collage. Materials needed will be discussed at the first class. Class limited to 15 students.

Pre: Co: Elect: CLAY HAINDBUILDING: A introduction to handbuilding techniques in clay; pinch, coil, and slab construction for the psychiatrically disabled adult. Work will be glazed and fired and will include five different projects. Classes will consist of demonstrations by the instructor and student work time. Students can expect to create four or five different projects which they will design, build, decorate, and glaze. Projects will include a vase, wind-chimes, candle-lantern, serving container, and a trivet. Tools and materials will be provided.
