    Lenses, Filters & "Special Effects" Pre: Co: Elect: Specialized colored filters, wide angle, telephoto lenses and flash techniques are only a few of the creative attachments available to capture a "special effect" in photography. This 2-part seminar is designed to help students learn how and when to use their 35mm of 2-1/2 camera more effectively. Choosing the proper film for color balancing, toning and creating additional "special effects" will be covered. Basic camera knowledge, camera and flash attachment are required.

    Pre: Co: Elect: LIGHT AND COMPOSITION: In this course, students photographers will learn how to utlize daylight, electronic flash and tungsten light to obtain the best possible results in portraiture, child photography, and wedding photography. Participants will learn how to use the key elements of light and composition to their best advantage. Registrants should have at least a basic knowledge of their camera. Different types of film (and when to use them) will also be covered. Students must supply their own 35mm camera and film. Class limited to 15 students.

    Pre: Co: Elect: PHOTO JOURNALISM: Photojournalism introduces the approaches and techniques for covering spot news, sports, and feature stories. We look at the work of masters in the field, discuss appropriate equipment for different situations, and explore how to get photographs published. Assignments lead photographers from the basic elements of descriptive picture taking to the creation of their own phot essay.

    Nature Photography Pre: Co: Elect: Explore nature in detail and learn how to discover sensitive & unique ways of photgraphing the beauty that surrounds you. Viewing and capturing the natural world on film requires patience and concentration, whether it be the tiniest dewdrop on a flower petal, the amber glow of a summer sunset or the rugged and roaring seashore. We will meet at the school as a home base and venture off on 3 weekend location shoots (Saturdays - mid afternoon) and three evenings of classroom critique. Equipment, filters and appropriate film will be covered, as well as "pre-decided" student locations. Knowledge of basic camera skills required.

    Pre: Co: Elect: BEYOND BASIC CAMERA: This course is for individuals who wish to learn composition, how to solve general photgraphic problems, study the visual elements of photography, and examine photogrpahic equipment. Class time is spent discussing how to get the picture you want and working with equipment. Bring slides or photographs to each class. Limited to those who have taken Basic Camera or possess a knowledge of the materials covered.

    Pre: Co: Elect: PHOTOGRAPHING ANIMALS: Owners of horses,dogs, cats, birds or baby gorillas - have you ever tried to take a perfect picture of your pet only to be disappointed? This class will show you a simple but successful approach and get great results. Participants wishing to have their animal photographed during the six-week course should call the instructor at 508-356-3844 to make arrangements. Note: This class will meet at House of Hinlin Photography Studio, 78 1/2 Central Street, Ipswich, MA (on Rt. 1-A across from the Winthrop Elementary School).
